Volunteer Opportunities:

Want to make a difference helping to prevent and reduce the growing problems of family violence, dating violence, child abuse/neglect and family pet abuse? Volunteers are needed now.

Currently the majority of our public education, public policy and community organization efforts are focused in our own back yard upon rapidly-growing Rockwall County, where Foundation founder and Rockwall resident J.J. Smith has been working continuously since 2006 to organize a community-wide effort to combat and prevent family violence. Much progress has been made.

If you live outside of Rockwall County and would like to help prevent these same problems, then your assistance is also needed - specifically with expanding our Dating Violence Dangers program across North Texas. For information, please see below.

Together with Rockwall County Helping Hands, J.J. first organized the
Rockwall County Coalition Against Family Violence in August, 2006. It has now grown to include more than 25 professionals from numerous County departments, agencies and organizations, including:

  • Rockwall County Helping Hands
  • Rockwall County Sheriff's Dept.
  • Rockwall County District Attorney's Office
  • Rockwall ISD
  • Rockwall ISD PTA
  • Rockwall Presbyterian Hospital
  • City of Rockwall Police Dept.
  • City of Royse City Police Dept.
  • City of Heath Public Safety Dept.
  • Women In Need Women's Shelter
  • State Representative Jody Laubenberg
  • State Senator Bob Duell
  • Soroptimists International of Rockwall County
  • Lillian Smith Family Violence Foundation

Professionals from these groups are doing all they can to combat family violence, so now volunteers are needed to help:

  • Identify local assistance services for victims and offenders
  • Find assistance services located outside of our area which are needed
  • Network with community leaders to expand local services
  • Network with community leaders to bring additional needed services here
  • Raise funds to help pay for needed services
  • Organize meetings to ensure services are working together
  • Arrange for our speakers to make presentations to local organizations
  • Speak publicly to local organizations

Volunteers are also needed to send emails, make phone calls, attend meetings and more - from home, as well as across the County.

Your efforts can either be performed in behalf of the Lillian Smith Foundation or the Rockwall Coalition. Both organizations need volunteers.
